Dendritic spines are the main targets of most excitatory synapses in the cerebral cortex. They are believed to provide chemical compartmentalisation and to participate as key elements in neural computation, including synaptic plasticity and altered integration in neurodegenerative diseases. Moreover, it has been shown that the number and density of dendritic spines located in different cortical areas and species present variations in density, that have been suggested to reflect functional differences characteristic of each cortical area/species. This workshop aims to discuss relevant findings regarding dendritic spines to better understand their role in neuronal circuits and to  simulate these structures in the different species.
